Weight Loss Tip : A Glass of Wine

It's amazing how one little innocent glass of Chardonnay or Shiraz can do so much damage to your waistline but it can if you don't take care. A small 125ml glass of wine contains around 100 calories - the equivalent of over 10 pounds of pure body fat being added to your body if you have one every day for a year.

Wine won't fill you up and it may even increase your appetite and lower your inhibitions so that you end up eating more than is good for you. Many people find that after a glass or two all caution goes to the wind.

If you do like a glass of wine with dinner then you need to make sure that you only have one and that you eat less or (preferably) exercise more to make up for those extra calories. When you find out you have to jog for an extra 12 -15 minutes a day to make up for each glass you might think twice.

As a compromise you may like to

have half a glass to enjoy the taste without all the calories

turn your wine into a spritzer to reduce the overall calories

save your wine drinking for weekends or special occasions

This is a time to use a quality not quantity principle. Why not treat yourself to better quality wines and sip your glass slowly to get the full enjoyment?

And if you have friends round to share the bottle, remember champagne is no more calories than other wines, yet it's hard to feel that you're deprived and "on a diet" when you have a glass.

Copia, Over $50 Million is Lost on the East Side of Napa

Sun, 30 Nov 2008 22:38:52 -0800
Receiving the news on Monday, November 24, 2008, that Copia had closed its doors, I was instantly reminded of the Sonoma County Wine Center. Neither facility has ever made sense to me. Why? When you’ve got valleys riddled with primary tasting locations - Winery Tasting rooms - who in their right mind would be venturing off to a wine center? It takes the charm right out of the experience that people so crave, which is visiting the actual location of the winery. Let’s see, which would I rath

Geography and topography have settled Marin County in a position where temperatures are lower than those in Sonoma and Napa Counties although they are mere minutes away. William Fevre 2006 Bougros Bouguerots Grand Cru Chablis - Chardonnay White Wine

Sun, 30 Nov 2008 20:29:13 -0800
White Wine by William Fevre from Burgundy, France - regions. Pale, green-tinged color. Highly nuanced, brisk aromas of powdered stone, lime blossom, grapefruit and quinine. Silky on entry, then suave and vibrant in the middle, with a strong minerally, chalky character, lovely subtle sweetness and an uncommonly fine-grained texture. Finishes with superb rising length and palate-saturating crushed stone. No clay here, just pure Kimmeridgian limestone on an extremely steep south-facing slope. -I

The cheese called Époisses

We took J & C to Blois yesterday to catch their train back to Paris. It was a Monday-thru-Friday visit. Over the course of that "work week," we ate a lot of cheese (and tasted a lot of wines). They like cheese, and enjoying the variety of cheeses here is one of the most pleasurable aspects of being in France. Here's a list of the cheeses we bought and sampled. In parentheses are the names of the provinces the cheeses come from and the milk used to make them. All are French except the Peccorino —

Katnook Estate Prodigy Shiraz 2005 Sunday, Nov 30 2008 · Posted in Coonawarra, shiraz et al · Comment By Gary Walsh I can’t help but think of the band The Prodigy when I see this wine, creators of songs with thumping beats and minimalist lyrics. It doesn’t take much to trigger something in my little head either mind you, so I’ve been singing “I’m a firestarter” for the last couple of hours… You need a subscription to The Wine Front to see this part of the post Tasted : Nov08 Alcohol :
